Real People. Real Stories. A Stronger Hawai'i.

From Pasture to Plate — Know the Whole Story

Hawaiʻi beef is more than what you see at the grocery store.

Pasture to Plate Hawaiʻi follows the people, animals, costs, decisions, challenges, and work behind our local beef supply chain—from the ranches where cattle are raised, through transportation, harvest and processing, to the people selling, preparing, and eating the final product.
We believe understanding where our food comes from starts by listening to the people who actually do the work.

What Do You Want to Know?

1. Raised on Local Ranches

The journey begins on Hawaii’s ranches, where cattle are cared for by local ranchers and their families across the islands’ open pastures.

2. Prepared With Care

When cattle leave the ranch, skilled local processing teams handle each step with care, helping turn livestock into safe, quality beef for our communities.

3. Cooked, Shared, and Enjoyed

Local beef reaches kitchens, restaurants, markets, and family tables—where chefs and home cooks transform it into meals that bring Hawaii together.

What is Pasture to Plate Hawaiʻi? Connecting the Dots

Pasture to Plate Hawaiʻi is an independent agricultural education and advocacy platform created to help connect the dots between Hawaiʻi’s ranches, processing facilities, markets, and dinner tables.
Agriculture is complicated. A single piece of beef may represent years of work and decisions involving land, animals, feed, weather, transportation, labor, food safety, processing, distribution, and markets before it ever reaches someone’s plate.
Online conversations often focus on only one piece of that system.
We’re here to look at the whole picture.
Our goal isn’t to tell people what to think. It’s to share information, ask questions, talk directly with the people doing the work, and give our community a better understanding of the systems behind Hawaiʻi’s food.

One State, Many Different Systems: Every Island Has a Different Story

There is no single model that represents all of Hawaiʻi agriculture. Geography, rainfall, forage, land availability, transportation, processing access, markets, infrastructure, and operating costs can look very different from one island—or even one ranch to another. What works on Hawaiʻi Island may not work the same way on Oʻahu, Maui, Molokaʻi, or Kauaʻi.

Pasture to Plate Hawaiʻi exists to share those different perspectives.

We don’t expect every rancher, processor, transporter, retailer, chef, or consumer to have the same experience. That’s exactly why the conversation matters.
